PCB appoints Moin Khan as chief selector

Former cricket team captain Moin Khan will be the chief selector for the Pakistan cricket team by appointment of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reported Express News on Monday.

Selectors Saleem Jaffar, Farukh Zaman and Azhar Khan will remain in their positions as before and will aid the chief selector in making decisions.

“Moin met with the PCB acting chairman Najam Sethi today and discussed in detail the role of the electors and his vision for the future,” a board spokesperson told media.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be offered the position of Chairman of National Selection Committee – a position held by many greats in the past and most recently by legendary Iqbal Qasim,” Moin said after getting the post.

Qasim had resigned from his post after Pakistan lost all three of their group matches at last month’s Champions Trophy.

Qasim cited personal and health reasons for his decision to step down but was known to be unhappy with interference from the team management in selection affairs.

“I have accepted this as a challenge and I am glad that PCB and my own vision corresponds in terms of reparing a pool of talented cricketers who can mount an effective challenge in the 2015 World Cup,” Moin said.

Earlier, Khan demanded the sacking of national coach Dav Whatmore following the team’s 3-0 whitewash by South Africa on February 28, saying a local man should replace him.

Khan also criticised Test and one-day captain Misbahul Haq.

“Both coach and captain are fighting for survival. They should have a plan and a vision with which they should leave the team on a firm footing but I can’t see any plan. Instead, they keep their interests before the team,” he said.
