Mehreen Faruqi: First Pakistani Muslim Female Parliamentarian in Australia

Sydney: A Pakistani Born migrant Mehreen Faruqi has become first Muslim lady to enter in Australia’s Parliament, International Media Agency Reported. Mehreen was migrated to Australia along with her family in 1992. New South Wales Greens has chosen her for upper house. She has been selected to represent Greens, a center left party.


Mehreen is an environmental engineer and university lecturer. Mehreen will be taking charge of this position by July 2013. She also told media that she is part of “Greens” for 10 years. She has participated in many activities. Multicultural support was one of major thing in this party which attracted me, she argued.
Talking to a foreign media, Mehreen boldly said that her religion will not influence on Politics. We are living in democratic state, we have secular system of government, she said. Religion shouldn’t play role in politics. Shockingly, Gay Marriage is one of major agenda of Mehreen.
